Carta ao Dr. Jordan Peterson, na ARC

Caros amigos, compartilho aqui uma pequena e algo divertida carta que resolvi endereçar para o caríssimo Dr. Peterson, após assistir a algumas palestras na edição deste ano da ARC - Alliance for Responsible Citizenship. Pura diversão, apenas.


Letter to Dr. Jordan Peterson, ARC

Dear Dr. Peterson,

Indeed you are dear to me, although we have never met. I watched your struggle against huge forces with great hopes and celebrated your victory with enthusiasm. And now you created the wonderful ARC. Wonderful work that will leave its mark upon this world.

Recently I watched two very good speeches in this year’s ARC. One about population, delivered by Mr. Stephen Shaw, the other about, well, about everything, delivered by the really funny and brilliant Mr. Kisin.

During both shows I thought something was missing. Like a last puzzle piece that remains to be connected to make that amazing click that would make a wise Greek jump naked out of his bathtub and cry Eureka! It is like both speakers were brushing on the truth but unable to see it, as if it was hidden by a veil.

Mr. Shaw seemed rightfully worried about the underpopulation trend that haunts the world. He then went looking for the cause and misplaced part of an effect for the cause of the problem. He spoke of how people were postponing family creation. He denounced that a lot of people were choosing not to have children. He showed us the rather alarming birth gap graphs.

But he missed something as the cause, something that possibly was missed due to the sheer size of the matter. Like an ant unable to perceive a huge and most beautiful elephant. I mean no disrespect with this comparison. In that scenario I am an even smaller ant, way behind the great course of events. Maybe that is the reason why I can see at least a shadow of that gigantic cause, or solution. But probably not.

Mr. Kisin, between his many and hilarious jokes, got away from what I see as the truth, trumpeting all the best conservative values while complaining that he was no such thing. Alas, poor fellow. He made his case too hard, providing such a wonderful defense of everything we, conservatives, hold so dear. But I understand him, this is just a tiny joke. He dislikes being thrown in a basket with a bunch of unknown people and that is very wise. I myself have some reluctance in defining myself as a conservative. Nowadays I prefer to say, for the sake of conciseness, that I am just a humble catholic sinner.

Like Mr. Shaw, he missed the mark. But he was literally banging it with his nose, no pun intended. He reached the top saying that we were copying values instead of actually living them. Bingo! Or, almost bingo!

I wrote all this for the sake of amusement and respect for all of you. You are legends, really, and I hope to see a great many beautiful thing sprout from your endeavors. But the essence to this letter is the misplaced piece of the puzzle. I say misplaced because it is there, it is actually known and loved by many, but it is not in His rightful place.

And here I gave up the not so concealed mystery. The missing piece is, of course, God.

I understand you lived your live with a crescent struggle with Him, and I believe you have recently come to terms with His amazingly beautiful love. Knowing how you dealt with Nietzsche for a long time I stare in awe at your trajectory. I do not know many that dwelt in that somewhat confused but powerful mind’s realm without some deep scars. But enough of him, let’s get back to Him.

All of our civilization’s beauty derives from His love. Please do not see this as an empty apologetic sermon, dear sir. It is in fact a quite enthusiastic utterance. I see His great love all around me, specially in my dear daughter’s smiles, in the children’s giggles, in the happy antics of a pet, in the trumpeting glory of dawn.

All that cannot stay undetected in ARC as it is. Or improperly placed. His Grace claims to be seen in every phrase offered by those amazing people at ARC. It is really there, missing just the rightful recognition.

I do hope He blesses you all with the faith in Him and gives you the strength and wisdom to connect that major central piece that will make the puzzle turn into a most beautiful declaration of western’s essence.
